Spike interviews Marion Nestle, America’s preeminent nutritionist, about her latest book dedicated to the complicated process of shopping for, cooking, and eating fish.
Marion Nestle is credited with establishing the modern field of food studies, which linked nutrition to other aspects of the food system—like agriculture—for the first time. Her seminal 2003 book Food Politics was one of the first to spotlight food industry influence on how and what we eat, and she’s written about a dozen other books since. In this episode, Spike interviews her about her most recent title, The Fish Counter.
In addition to chatting about the complicated process of choosing fish—from where mercury in fish comes from to which fisheries may be depleted beyond repair—they dig into the her Origins story and how she became the country's go-to source for no-nonsense advice on what healthy, responsible eating looks like.
